hi, i have a linksys 8port cable/dsl router and it was all working, until the login got set to disable in the 192.168.1.1 area of the router. now i can no longer change the router settings. if anyone has had this problem and can help please respond. if you have any suggestions please also respond.

There are a couple of possibilities. A reset of the router for about 30 seconds should return it to the factory defaults which should allow you in, but you will lose all your settings so you may not want to do this.

The second posibility depends on exactly what happens when you try to connect to it. Do you get the password prompt or a 404 not found error? Is there any chance you've changed the router ip address or password?

this is what i know has happened. when i go to 192.168.1.1 the normal screen pops up. when i go to status, it has login as disable. so how can i change it? i cant even change anything. when i try it says: The page cannot be displayed

OK, we're actually talking about a couple of unrelated things.

"the normal screen pops up" Do you mean the password prompt or do you mean that you're taken directly to the setup page?

"when i go to status, it has login as disable" I never really noticed this before, but mine say the same thing even though I can login from inside the lan or outside the lan on any of them. I suspect this would only say enabled if you were using a DSL/cable service that requires login to the ISP such as PPTP or PPPoe. In any event, it is unrelated to your problem.

What firmware are you using on the router? Also, what browser & version are you trying to access it with? I suspect this is a password type problem.

well, it does'nt even ask for the password. it takes me directly into the config page. it says disable, and im using cable. so i dont really know whats going on. "none of the computers on the router can access the internet. right now, im not using the router, im connected directly, so i can use the internet....

Have you tried accessing the router from the other computer? What has changed that prevents all the computers from accessing the internet? It may be time to reset the router.

robert187,
may i ask who is your isp? coz it depends on the isp that youre using...if its cable its okey if its disabled....
