I have a customer who used a Linksys router to extend single line dial tone to a remote site. At the Magix end the routers are connected to 012 ports, and at the remote end, he is using single line phones. Do you think I could use the same hardware, terminate it in 400 E&M tie line boards, and network the systems? Just curious to see what anyone thinks of that idea.

Inquiring minds want to know...how do you use a Linksys Router to ship S/L station dial tone to an off site location. I didn't know that could be done...is there a
website I can look at to see the spec's...better yet what
is the model number of the router used...thanks

I wouldn't use 400 E&M Module, I would use loop-start lines. I've done this on a Legend to Partner. On the Legend it terminated on 016 tip ring, on the Partner it went into line ports. When the Partner goes off-hook, it grabs intercom dialtone off the Legend and they can dial peoples extensions. For the Legend, they dial one of the Legend 016 extensions and depending upon which line port it terminates onto in the Partner, it rings that line (which we have set for personal lines on the Partner). I can't remember what the router we used was at this point. It was installed a while ago.

I have done the 012 board on one end and the trunk appearance on the other. I will post the link later - or am I allowed to do that here? I don't think it does E&M - this is a temp setup for a customer and I was trying to get away from people having to listen to two greetings but I don't think I can pull it off. Oh well. I will still check on the E&M

I do recall GTE using an adapter that super-imposed the E&M over the T&R pair...this allowed telco to send this ckt over 1 pair of copper...Maybe one of the old timers in this forum remember what that interface was called. I doubt this
interface would work (if you could find one) with a T1 Ckt.
Still need to know what the model number of the Linksys Router your using and are there any other adapters used in
connecting dial tone to the router?

This is the link - they have a 2-port and an 8-port version. I have heard the call quality and it is pretty good. I haven't checked about the E&M capability yet. My particular client is temporarily forced into different space because of a remodel, so they don't want to pay for a T1. We are using DSL at the temp location.

It is called "simplex" and "duplex" signaling. That is how Telco derived E/M siganling leads from a 4-wire or 2-wire ckt.

Tellabs made modules for that. If you wanted to do that on a DS1, you would need a channel bank with a 4-wire E/M channel unit.

Thanks Syquest for the history lesson...I knew somebody would know who made those interfaces..

I am curious to know why you want to use Tie-lines instead
of the s/l stations that are extended now...do you have a
phone system at the distant end?

Tie lines would let me get back to the main switch for coverage to voice mail and to have a uniform dial plan. I have a Magix at both ends; one has the lines from the Linksys as 012 single line stations terminating in trunks at the other end. If anyone has a better suggestion on how to utilize them I would appreciate the input.

Phonesaz...could you provide me with the specific model number of the Voip adapters on both ends...I did check out the Linksys WS and there are alot of options.
Thanks in advance

phonesaz....still am waiting you to tell me what are the
type of Linksys adapters your customer is using, I am interested in the application of sending OPX thru the net.
Thanks in advance.
Or can anyone else share the info with me???

I am looking for the same solution. I am wondering what you used for the FXO at the Legend end. I see there are a ton of FXS ATA adapters made by linksys but I am wondering how you were able to deliver dial tone to the FXS ATA.

The customer did not want to build a VPN so they ended up installing a point to point T1.

OK, but what type of Linksys ATA did they use before they
went with the PTP T1...you must know what they were using.
I just want to know how OPX over the net was setup..what was
that "SAME HARDWARE" you refered to in your original question...
