I am using an RV042 firmware version 1.3.12.6-tm (newest available from Cisco/linksys website).
I am trying to connect clients via the Linksys Quickvpn utility. I am using QuickVPN version 1.2.11 (newest available from Cisco/linksys website) Every time I try to connect I recieve two errors
"The Server's certificate does not exist on your local machine. Do you want to quit this connection?"
at this screen i click No and it tries to continue forward. then i get the following error.
"Failed to establish a connection.
This could be caused by one of the following:
1. Incorrect password
2. no valid ip for the network card
3. incorrect server address
4. Windows Vista with Windows Firewall disabled, which disables IPSec service.
5. Local IP address conflicts with the subnet of the remote VPN Server."

on this second message
1. I have the correct password
2. my system has a good IP address
3. I have the correct server address
4. The Windows Vista Firewall is turned on
5. the IP addressing scheme is not going to conflict. the computer trying to vpn is on a 172.31.0.x address and the router is on a 10.10.10.x address.

I have copied the PEM file (certificate file) to the Linksys Quick VPN directory per instructions I found on multiple other forums.
I also followed the instructions found at
and performed the registry edit found at

what follows is the wget_error.txt
the IP address has been changed to 0.0.0.0 but I have confirmed that the one actually in the file is correct. I have also removed the username and password incorrect informaiton as we all understand the needs for security

wget_error.txt
"--06:04:34-- => `C://Program Files (x86)//Linksys//Linksys VPN Client//vpnserver.conf'
Connecting to 0.0.0.0:443... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 404 Not found
06:05:34 ERROR 404: Not found."

Though i am currently testing this from a Windows Vista computer. the issue also exists on Windows XP computers.

any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

are you using the local LAN ip's to establish the VPN or the public 'peer' IP's? because 172.31.x.x and 10.10.10.x are not routable

yes. both of these sites are behind NAT. I am able to connect utilizing the PPTP server service, but i have reached my 5 user li.mit on the PPTP server. that is the only reason i am using the quickvpn utility which many forums report a lot of problems with. I have even contact Linksys\Cisco business support and they have escalated this as their support does not have an answer for me.
If they are able to provide me an answer, i will post it here.

Ah, quickvpn. How fondly I remember it *cough, splutter*.

I'd recommend trying another client, such as The Shrew.
