Linksys Products Need Occasional Rebooting, anyone else notice this?

Has anyone noticed that Linksys switches and routers need rebooting occassionally? Is this a problem limited to Linksys or does it cover most brands?

For instance, at least three of my clients need to power down and up their 5 and 8 port switches at least once a month, if not more often. This usually happens when they lose connectivity through the switch. It's becoming frustrating because I typically don't think of rebooting networking equipment when troubleshooting a network issue. The one switch (Linksys 5 port EZXS55W) that prompted this post is only about 2 months old.

I would expect problems similar to this on older equipment or on Cable/DSL routers, but not on a newer pieces that are switches.

Anyone else notice this or do I just have extremely good luck with Linksys? :)

Are the workstations connected directly to each switch, or is there any kind of hardware inbetween (repeaters, other switches, etc)?

The only way to tell for sure is try another product. If the problem remains, then of course you'll know that it had nothing to do with the Linksys brand. Personally, I've never had a connectivity problem with their 4 or 8 port switches (models BEFSRxx).

As a last thought, if the workstations connected are identical, there could be a conflict with the type of NIC you are using.

They are all different workstations and all are connected directly to the switch.

This one:
Linksys 5 port EZXS55W
is a p.i.a.

Replace it.

The BFSR41 series and the WRT54G series have no so issues.

Whenever troubleshooting network connectivity, I would always cycle power on the cable/dsl modem, router, and switches first.

I have had issues with Linksys equipt. needing to be cycled once a month or so.

It's all part of the fun right?

lifeguard2,
Are the network devices on a UPS ? If the circuit is getting lower or higher spikes of voltage it might inhibit the switch or router. Putting on a UPS will guarantee no fluctuations in power.

One thing that I have seen is that the original source of the power supply "brick" to the switches and routers has issues.

Even if out of warranty, start with a request to Linksys for a replacement of the power adapter. There is no charge, and the replacement usually takes 3-5 business days. Look carefully at the following direct request form to identify a replacement power supply (third option):
