Hi,

I'm looking for 8-port hubs/switches for my workgroup network. They should be compatible with Solaris and Linux.

I know that Netgear hubs/switches work fine with those OS's. What about Linksys? Are there any models compatible with the same OS's? Some models like SD208, EFAH08W, EZXS88W or EFAH08W; can they work?

I've looked at Linksys website but there's no clue at all.

All suggestions would be grateful.
Thanks a lot.

Switch & hub functionality are unrelated to OS. You can even have multiple os's connected the same switch/hub.

Thanks a lot smah...

I'm still curious why some models from Netgear are platform specific.

Its website, for instance, says FS108 8-port switch is for PC hardware platform ???

Do I have to take that kind of information into consideration?

Please advise.

Cheers,
Anuchit

Do you have a link where it states 'PC hardware platform'? (Which BTW, isn't exactly the same as operating sytem). My suspicion is that it's referring to the size/mounting of this device - to be placed on a desktop instead of a rackmount arrangement. This is what I found for the FS108 at
System Requirements:
• Network cables
• Network card for each PC or server
• Network sofware (e.g., Windows, Linux, MacOS)

If the switches come with management software, it is possible that software was written for a particular OS platform.
