Hi,

I have a home network where I use a Linksys BFESR41 Cable/DSL router and would like to share my new printer with my PC and laptop. My printer has an ethernet port. Is it possible for me to share the printer using this router or do I need some other hardware to do it. Do I need a Printserver Router to achieve this?

Any help is really appreciated.

You should be able to use the printer. The linksys will supply an IP if the printer uses DHCP to address itself. If the printer wants a static IP pick a number that is outside of the normal DHCP assinged addresses by the linksys. By default if the linksys is handing out addresses, the BEFSR41 will give addresses beginning with 192.168.0.100 and ending with 192.168.0.149. So pick an IP (not 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.0.255) that is outside of this range of addresses.

To use the printer you Start, Printer and Faxes, and add the printer, specifying that it uses a TCP/IP port and then give the printer's IP address. The printer can usually be configured with a software utility, or through its front panel. If you print a test page from the printer itself it should show its IP address.

Hi,

actually linksys uses these numbers

DHCP IP add range : 192.168.1.100 - 149 (50 USERS)
STATIC IP add range : 192.168.1.2 - 99

default gateway for linksys is actually 192.168.1.1 , the address 192.168.0.1 might be for another router brand.

hope this helps...

STATIC IP add range : 192.168.1.2 - 99

Actually, the static IP address range also includes addresses 192.168.1.150 - 192.168.1.254

Thank you all for valuable suggestions. I kept the IP of the printer as 192.168.1.200 ans everything is working smoothly as desired now.
