A good friend has a Linksys BFESR41 Cable/DSL router that she just purchased. For some reason it would not take an IP from the DHCP pool. They ended up putting a static on it and worked fine. Now she is getting dropped constantly. She is bypassing the router all together now. HW issue?

Are there any known issues with this model and DHCP?? We have gone through all the standard troubleshooting steps, verified all config with ISP, Linksys, connections to workstation, router and modem etc etc.. Any ideas?
Thanks
Dave

It sounds like the issue of a cable broadband connection with having used the MAC cloning feature.

Do an ipconifg /all on the workstation and note the "Physical Address" value returned.

Unplug the cable modem, using the on/off switch is not the same.

Enter the websetup for the router, and under the advanced tab enter the MAC address without spaces or "-" dashes.
Apply the changes.
Power off the router.

Power on the cable modem, and when the lites are stable, power on the router. When its lights are stable power on the PC. Set it to obtain a DHCP address, and do an ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew sequence.

As a general answer to your question I have not seen any reports of recent issues with the BEFSR41. It is possible the router was essentially DOA and should be RMAd back to linksys. The following link makes the process easier than arranging this by phone:
