This is a home setup which worked fine for 2 months. I have the Linksys BEFW11S4 v3 wireless b router and a speedstream wireless b pci card model 1024. All of a sudden last week the wireless connection went all to hell. My pc, which is using the wireless, gets pings of 200-300 (when I try to ping websites), while my wired pc in the other room gets pings of 20-30. I updated the firmware on both the router and card and still have problems. All settings are default on the router except the SSID name and password. WEP is disabled.

I uninstalled the wireless card and reinstalled. By doing this it made things worse. I go through the Windows XP setup for connecting to the router and I get the message saying "one or more wireless connection found click to select.." I do that, click on my router it lists (which i know is mine because of the SSID i made up) and then the same message comes up "one or more wireless connections....". It never connects.

Anyone know whats wrong or knows a fix?

I've had similar problems with this. When you do "ipconfig" OR 2x click on the monitor icon on the taskbar and go to Support, what is the IP address you are getting? I think the reason why you keep getting the "one or more networks are available" msg. is because you are not on the correct network to make the connection with the correct SSID. When you check the ipconfig, you might be on the 169.x.x.x subnet. Check that out first. Also, if you see the correct SSID, that's telling you that the BEFW11S4 is sending a strong enough signal to reach your wireless desktop/laptop. The problem seems to be on the remote side (desktop/laptop). If you haven't done this already, move closer to the BEFW11S4 and see what happens when you restart.

Same thing happened here on XP. The reason is hotfix Q815485 OR Q826942. These contain an advanced XP network upgrade that requires WEP. I went to control panel, Add remove programs, and unistalled the hotfix. Worked like a charm. I plan to set up WEP and reinstall the hotfix. Good luck!

well uninstalling the hot fix got the card to connect to the router no problem. its pretty slow though still getting high pings.

I did try moving the computer right next to the router and it didn't make any difference.I got an "excellent connection" message from my pci card but still same high ping. Once when reinstalling the speadstream it actually got good ping so this pci card seems to be randomly working correctly.

on a side note i tried a brand new linksys wireless b pci card (thinking the speedstream was causing the problems). This card gave me low ping surfing the web but playing an internet game was impossible. I would get blips in connection every 10-15 seconds and eventually lose all connection, same thing that started happening with my speedstream all of a sudden, which makes me wonder if the wireless part of the router is the main problem. I dont get these blips when connected directly to the router.

All of you would benefit by making sure, if under XP, you have applied the wireless rollup package:
As it is likely several different hardware and firmwares are being discussed in this thread, please spend some time searching on the strongest Linksys Forum on the Web:
