Linksys has recently released the 1.40.4, Nov 21 2002 firmware. I am currently running 3 BEFVP41 cable routers that have been upgraded to the latest firmware. Here are some helpful information regarding the latest firmware:

Setup:

3 - Linksys BEFVP41 (from 2 - 6 tunnels on each)
1 - Linksys BEFSR81
1 - Linksys BEFSR41

1) BUG - installing the firmware resets the TIMEZONE to -06:00 Mexico (not serious, reset to required timezone)

2) DDNS - no longer uses a drop down box for domain names, but instead a form box. If upgrading from previous 1.40.3f, DDNS domain setting will be lost, DDNS will not work until domain setting reset.

3) VPN strange tunnels persist from previous versions e.g. tunnels numbered #72 (xxx placed to remove IP)

2002-12-04 12:27:14 IKE[72] Tx >> MM_R1 : 24.100.xxx.xxx SA
2002-12-04 12:27:14 IKE[72] ISAKMP SA CKI=[749142f5 140271cf] CKR=[1e0f09a4 450fc437]

2002-12-04 12:27:15 IKE[72] Rx << MM_I2 : 24.100.xxx.xxx KE, NONCE
2002-12-04 12:27:15 IKE[72] Tx >> MM_R2 : 24.100.xxx.xxx KE, NONCE

4) ISAKMP Pre-shared Key issue continues from previous firmware releases. Changing the keys to another value on both ends seems to temporarily fix the problem. e.g. problem message:

00:00:06 IKE[2] Rx << Notify : INVALID-PAYLOAD-TYPE
00:00:06 IKE[2] **Check your ISAKMP Pre-share Key setting !

5) Monitoring a BEFVP41 cable router with LinkLogger stops working after several hours.

6) Though not a bug, the LOG does not record traffic entering leaving VPN tunnels.

7) Having another Linksys cable router on the network LAN side configured as a ROUTER with RIP2, places a secondary DEFAULT route into the BEFVP41 cable router routing table and stops its functionality.

8) DDNS problem of too frequent updates to DYNDNS.ORG fas been fixed and accounts are not being locked out by the service.

Cheers,

Frank
