Linksys BEFVP41 and DSL Modem

I have a LAN connected through a Linksys BEFVP41 router, and a Efficient Networks DSL modem, and I would like to create VPN connections to an NT Server. Do I need to setup the Microsoft VPN networking on this server, or does the router act in the same capacity?
I have been trying to connect to this server using the VPN connection setup in W2k Pro. I had my internet provider open IP Protocol 47 and TCP port 1723.
If I don't need to setup the Microsoft VPN networking on the server, then I would greatly appreciate any help in resolving my issue. Thanks
