I had a customer call me today, and they explained that the router's (Linksys BEFSR41) LED's are all off.No connection,no power, but the router was fine all week. Now we did have some storms over the weekend so I wont count that senario out,as far as a surge. They are not connected to a suppresser.I have not been on site to investigate this, but I had her check the extension cord, plugs, etc. The other items plugged into the cord are working ,as for the router,no lights,no anything.Has anyone had this mysterious happening?

I never had this happen, but version 1 of these routers had the transformer in the middle of the cord. As I recall, one side (router side probalby?) could be unplugged. Also with this version, there should be an led on the transformer itself.

Although this shouldn't kill the led's, you may also want to ask if she updated the firmware to 1.45 a few months ago. the storms may have been enough to kick it off.

Well..The router is new,and I installed it about a week ago.Would this router be equiped with the updated software off the shelf.Unfortunately,I dont know the exact date of manufacture. Thanks for the advice..Im convinced that the router is shot from some act of god,but wont know exactly until I get on site.Thanks.

smah,

The storm may have been enough to kick off a firmware upgrade???? [upsidedown]

cablepuller,

I can assure you they do not like more than 5 volts DC. Though overall I think they are pretty sturdy beasts, and have never heard of problems unless the modem went out as well (with a lightning stike through the phone wire).

A cross-ship option will get you a replacement in 2-3 business days, just use this form:
The only time I had one act as yours did was when I was an absolute complete idiot and plugged a Linksys switch power adapter (7.5 volts) into the router by mistake. Instant toast.

Uhhhhhhhh, my post wasn't very clear was it [nosmiley]?

What I actually meant (with reference to the content of the link above) was that the storm may have caused a reset and that reset is what made the router fail (as mentioned in the 1.45 firmware link above). And no, cablepuller, the router would not have had that firmware 'off the shelf'.
