hey, the guy that set up this small coffeeshop network (and did a pisspoor job) before i came along to fix it all has left me with a bit of a problem. noone here (including the owner) knows the password he set up for the linksys router.

i need to get into the router because it's firewall is letting anyone and everyone in, and the owner doesn't want to have to buy a new router unless absolutely necessary.

does anyone have any ideas?

thx-

I would get on the line with Linksys, and ask how to reset everything in the router...

Probably is done by unplugging the router, then hold down the reset, plug in router while holding down reset button still. Release button after 10 seconds or so..
default pw is admin

There is a reset button on the front. Using something like a straightened paperclip, hold the button in for about 30 seconds.

After you reset as smah suggested, you enter in the browser of your gateway PC, use a blank Username and the Password: admin to gain access to the setup. Strongly suggested that you change the password immediately after that. Newposter

Correct - the default ROUTER address is But the control scheme to set up the router config is reached by entering in your browser. Newposter

?????????????????????

does nothing on either of my BEFSR41's

Unless, of course, I had changed the route IP address to this, which it is not by default.

Oops, sorry, smah is right, 192.168.1.1 IS the Linksys router; 192.168.100.1 is the Motorola cable modem. Newposter

i fixed the problem guys...thx
as i stated before tho, i couldn't reset it because all the DNS/WAN ip/username/password info was tied up. the guy who set it all up is also the guy who's name was on the account with the ISP, so they wouldn't release any of that information. thus if i reset it, the network would no longer be able to get back in until we contacted the Owner of the network so she could call them and tell them to release it all. so what we did is brute force broke the password (which did nothing because the router was still snafu), then used the gozilla cgi-bug to access through port 5678. from there i turned off the DMZ hosting (which is why i needed access to the router in the first place) so that our system wasn't so damned vulnerable anymore. i reset the password and everything, then because i had the account username and password, contacted the ISP and had them remove the old guy's name from the account.

everything's back up and working fine, thanx.

oh, and i also installed the firmware patch to fix the gozilla cgi-bug ;)
