Hi,
I have a setup that consists of 8 PC's and 4 printers on a Netgear 16port switch. The DSL modem is also on the switch. Due to hacking and lack of internet security I went and purchased a 1 port DSL Router to have some protection. Well when I connect the DSL modem to the WAN Port of the router and connect a straight-through CAT5 to the switch the WAN indicator lights don't come on and I can't access the web anymore. The switch itself is an autosensing switch. Any ideas?

1. You need to connect the straight through cable to the uplink port on the switch, not a regular port. Otherwise, use a cross-over cable. Your switch autodetects speed and duplex, but likely is not auto-MX capable.

2. You liklely used a cross-over cable between modem and switch. The linksys is expecting a straight-throu cable.
