I am currently running three computers in the house, two of the connected via ethernet cable, the other via a wireless ethernet card to mt router, connected to the internet via Verizon DSL.

My problem is, I constantly lose connectivity of three different instant messenger systems on all three computers. Verizon tried to tell me that the programs had become corrupt, but i can't believe that 9 total instances would all go corrupt at the same time. any help, thoughts, ideas would be greatly appreciated !

Have you ever tried to forward the ports of those three different messengers on the router? What are the names of those three different Messengers?

the three applications are : AOL IM, MSN, and Yahoo.

i have attempted to foward the port for the AOL (port 5190)
and this seems to have helped on one computer, but the others are still experiencing the same issues. i can't seem to find port information for either MSN or yahoo.

NOTE: Shut off any personal firewall programs such as BlackIce, ZoneAlarm, etc.
Ports 6891-6900 enable File send,
MSN Messenger:
Port 6901 is for voice communications
Allows Voice, PC to Phone, Messages, and Full File transfer capabilities.
IN TCP 6891 - 6900
IN TCP 1863
IN UDP 1863
IN UDP 5190
IN UDP 6901
IN TCP 6901

Yahoo Messenger Chat
IN TCP 5000 - 5001

Hope this would help!
Goodluck.

I barely disagree in opening ports, 'coz if you could connect to your messengers then there is no problem.

Try this:
Change MTU of the router to the MTU of Verizon.
Flash the firmware of the router to the latest one.

Shocker,
You can actually use these programs but the computers are behind the router. The thing is that you may use these programs but not continously. That's why try first to forward the ports to verify the connection. One thing is he never mentioned that he already tried to do the forwarding.
If nothing works with the forwarding solution, maybe we could try to do the firmware update.
Lotustech, also provide us the exact troubleshootings you've done already.Thanks.

Ok, guys.

1. I've already checked the linksys website, there are currently no firmware updates for my router.

2. I have set the port fowarding as you have suggested, ironwill. I will monitor the situation and report results tomorrow.
