Hi,

I am very new to InDesign. I will actually begin using it soon - since it replaces PageMaker. But I have a question.

I'm responsible for creating my company's documentation, including manuals.

One of the features of this manual is to have a user click on a page number from the table of contents, and be taken to that section of the manual. Now, I can easily handle this in Adobe Acrobat by meticulously settings links.

Here's where the problem comes in. If I need to modify anything on that PDF document - a header, footer, etc., then I would have to update it in its native format (Word), and then export it back to a PDF, having to update all of the links again.

I'm hoping that PageMaker/InDesign will help me create the links ONE TIME and then export my manual to a PDF format, retaining the links that I created in PageMaker/InDesign.

Since I'm new to both PageMaker and InDesign, my main questions are:
- Does PageMaker/InDesign offer a feature where you can create hyperlinks to other sections of the documents? AND
- If I export that PageMaker/InDesign document to a PDF, will those hyperlinks be retained?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Window menu/Interactive. There, you have bookmarks and links.

They work pretty much the same as a seb design app or even Word.

When exporting to pdf, just make sure the ceheck the boxes to retain bookmarks, links, etc.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

Thanks, jmgalvin.

I tried the feature with a Bookmark, and I got that to export to a PDF just as you said.

I think I need to pickup a InDesign manual before I go much further.

I need to import a PageMaker manual into InDesign to resume my updates and then I'll start to create the links.

Thanks for your advice. I'll let you know how it goes.
