HELP!!

On a site which should have a list of topics to click on when the user logs in, I've had several users complain that they can't see anything listed. I had one user send me the source code from the page he sees, and where the links should look like this:

Code:
<a href="boards/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewThread&threadID=1"  img src="collateral/images/status_new.gif" width="14" height="14" vspace="3" border="0"></a>

He sees:
Code:
<!--ref="boards/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewThread&threadID=1"  img src="collateral/images/status_new.gif" width="14" height="14" vspace="3" border="0"  -->

All users that have complained are on IE 6.0, but we also have loads of IE users who have had no issues. There are also other links on this page that appear to be displaying fine. We had this same user check for spyware, and he claims to be clean. Has anybody seen anything like this before?
