I'm a web designer and a hosting reseller. I'm currently designing sites for football clubs (that's soccer clubs if your in the USA), and I intend to put a link to both my web hosting site and my web design site on all of the sites that I'm designing.

All of the football sites will be hosted on my reseller account and will therefore all have the same IP address. If I were to design 20 sites hosted at the same IP address, all linking to my 2 sites which also have that same IP, will my search engine rankings suffer?

I was thinking that maybe the search engines might figure that I was trying to falsely increase my ranking with all those links on different sites back to the same IP?

Any advice appreciated.

It's unlikely to do any harm and on the other hand it's unlikely to do a lot of good. ROS (Run Of Site) external links appear to have less weight now. Rather than put footer links in every page, have a page about your services on each site and link that in the footers then have the link to your site on that. It gives you chance to say more to the few people who may be interested in the services, and of course that's the only reason you would want to have a link back.

The IP thing is just another idea by the ones who are always trying to fool the SEs. It will make no difference to normal business.
