i don't quite know which forum this ought get posted to, so i think i'll x-post it.

let's say i have a table which gets 10 forms. let's say that for every individual (person) there are ten visits (visits) which number 1 ~ 10. and let's say i have another form with a button on it that will determine which 'view' of the table the user will be entering/modifying the data for (there is a macro behind the button on double-clicking that evaluates the response (1~10) to the adjacent field on this form and opens-form conditionally.

i created the command button and tested it and it worked fine.

i have read some ms access documentation which describes how to find a record by selecting a value from a list, however it seems to pre-suppose the record your looking for is in a pre-xisting state.

what concerns me is that the first time the user uses my form, the table will have no records. what (i think) i would like to do is have a way that another table (the one)links up with the many - in a one-to-many - relationship. the 'one' table exists, and it will always be true that the individual in the tables referred to above will be in it. so, is there a way to somehow 'populate' the 'person' field with his/her id number in the table which has both the 'person' and 'visit' information?
