Linking to mdb causes Jet error

I have an Access.MDE application that runs on several desktops and links the database on another PC. When trying to link to the db I am getting an error "Jet database engine could not find the object MSysIMEXColumns" I have check the application and the permissions are wide open. I have checked the mapping and the share and I can see no problems. I can see the database from the remote system that is mapped. I have been running this program for several years and this is the first time I have run into this problem. Both the pc's in question are Windows XP.
