When linking to and excel sheet, access only allows the skipping of one row (use as heading). What do you do if you have to link to one where stupid people have flowered the first 6 rows (filled cells with colors, added pointess calculations).

The actual data does not start untill like row 6. I could import, but the data will change and I dont want to keep updating it. There has to be a way to say "start on the n'th row.

Thanks

If there is a named range defined in the excel spreadsheet, i believe that you can tell Access to only get the information from that named range.

There are no named ranges defined and I am sure that my request to have then added will be refused.

BTW: How do you define one? Excel has nothing on it and some webs are not clear on each step.

two ways:

1. highlight the all the cells you need in the range. to the left of the cell information box at the top of the sheet is a box that holds the cell id that you are currently in (when you open a brand new spreadsheet it says A1, if you move to B2, it will change to B2, if your mouse cursor hovers over it the label is 'Name Box'), type the name you want to use to refer to the highlighted cells.

2. Insert -> Name -> Define
enter the name of the range you want to use
enter the cells that it refers to.

Why would the request be refused? it doesn't change any of the functionality of the spreadsheet, it just allows you to say, all these cells are 'One Thing'.

I think I get the idea?
Thanks

BTW: How do i specify that i was from say: 'A5' thru the end of 'A'

The owner of the doc would deny the request because
1. It would take a few moments work.
2. They would not believe that it would not hurt the functionality of the doc. (paranoia due to lack of understanding).

Basically I work at a company where most of the IT people are morons (even the CIO). They would keep a 2,000 row server information list in an excel doc with no functional structure rather then in access or SQL where relationships could be made and information querried. Instead, when that info is needed, many, many hours are used to gather it together rather then a 5 second query.

Excel is routinly used here where Access should be. They use Excel for everything. And I mean everything.

Its frustrating.
Thanks again.
