I have obtained an old HP PC and installed windows98se. It has a 3Com NIC card. But lacks drivers for it.
I am thinking of going on to braodband. Will this card be my connection for broadband or will I use the 56K modem. If the NIC is for Broadband I will need to seek drivers, I suppose.
I have not connected to broadband before, nor am I sure what this NIC is for.

You will use the NIC. The 56K is for dialup.

The HP website has drivers for stuff that was originally installed on their equipment, although it is possible that it is removed after a time.

You might try downloading a copy of Belarc Advisor to identify the hardware. It is possible that you have other than HP equipment.

Give the wrong symptoms, get the wrong solutions.

You will be connecting with the NIC card. If this is a home pc the cable co. will do the setup for you. WIN98 did not have the correct drivers for your card?
