Linking to a word document on another server

We have an intranet site. There are some links on it that links to employee forms and such. Those forms are listed on a different server than the one that is hosting the site.

My link is something like this: file://SERVER2/DIRECTORY/file.doc

All the computers that are on the domain can get to it fine, however, those that are not on the domain, will get a page cannot be displayed error.

any ideas?
 
well you cant have a link that way becuase file://Sever2 tells the browser that its a file on that particular server...if the server has a static IP you could try and put the IP then the directories and see if that works....207.23.4.55/serverr2/directory/file.doc
