Hi gang,

To satisfy my own curiousity, and give me a warm fuzzy feeling; Am i correct in say that placed EPS files are not located in the link pallet as an tif file may be?

That is to say that eps files not require the user to choose where to link or embed the image, they are imported in to the file completely.

cheers

Wait...what?

No!

During the placing of an EPS of course you still get the choice to link or not!!!

A linked EPS will show up in the Link Palette but an embedded one will not.

If you place an EPS which doesn't have pics in it, just vectors then it doesn't show in your links palette. Because why would it? What's it going to link too?
But if it has, say, custom gradients or patterns which can almost be concidered an image then they will show in your links palette as an embeded link.
Well that's what my test showed anyway.....

Thanks guys,

I realised that the vector eps files didnt end up in the links pallet, whilst the bitmap ones did.

Cheers

I just placed an EPS (a stroked rectangle) with the link option checked in Illy document and yes it does show in the links palette.

What's it going to link too?

It's linking to it's original file! Hence the word link! It's not embedded. You can't edit the eps with vector tools until it's embedded. You are only seeing a preview of the 'real' file...just like any link/

Oh, I see what your on about Dimoj,
I didn't see that link box there so I didn't have it ticked, I thought you were talking about the links palette.
So my stuff came in as editable vectors not as a linked picture.

Sorry about the mixup...

By the way, how did you make that text Italic in your post?

Marcus

Cool Marcus, I thought that may have been the case. No worries.

how did you make that text Italic in your post?

Just put an i in square brackets before the desired text and an /i in square brackets at the end of the text.

If you click on Preview Post instead of Submit post there is a list there of the text formatting you can do and how to do it!
