linking subreport to the main report

I have a main report and subreport.

both reports are using independent query. I need to link the sub report and the main report.

In main report I can using a field "mapname" to the subreport field "sessionname"

the trick here is mapname is same as sessionname but sessionname has 5 char of extra name

for ex:

this is how it looks


mapname : edit_check

sessionname: edit_check_incr

how can i use a formula to return so that it leaves the last 5 trail character and then link to the fields from mail report to subreport.

Iam using CR 8 ver

In subreport create formula stripping off the lasr 5 characters of sessionname

{sessionname}[1 to length({sessionname})-5]

and link mapname to that formula.
