Hi I am wanting to link two servers together, and am considering a fibreoptic link. The problem is that I have never used fibre optics before, and I was hoping someone would be able to advise me on the hardware I would need. The networks themselves are both networked using CAT5 cable and 100Mbps hubs.

Also if anyone knows a good supplier it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

If you really need that bandwith, ufh! those two talk a lot!

I would rather go with a back to back "crossed over calbe" between the two servers. Then creating a private lan between them"

With Full duplex capable cards, you can make them go fast. I use non-routable ip addresses betwwen the boxes for this private lan. 192.168.1.XXX is an example of an non-routable address

L8ter! L8ter!

If you have the money and want some really good performance, go with the fibre optic! 3Com have some really good switches 'SuperStacks 3300 SM' Use fibre to link them together and run the cat5 at either end out the front. These switches can be stacked so there is no need to worry about uplinks or running out of ports.

Get out your CAP X forms!

Good Luck
