Hi, I thought this should be simple but...

If want to have some files available for download surely the code is simply

< a href=&quot;my-dom/dir/file.zip&quot; >download</a>
(w/o spaces of course)

however this didn't work when I posted a link like this in another forum. Is there a guaranteed way of doing this?

thanks!

cian,
There's no way of guaranteed way of doing this. It depends on what software is installed on user's system, what default file type/application associations are, etc. For example, some files will be opened in some application that will load after you click the link. Others will be opened directly in browser window if such a plug-in exists...

In order to be sure you have to out some text next to the link that sais:
Click with the right mouse button and select &quot;Save As / Save Target As&quot; to download the file.

For Mac platform (there is only 1 button on the mouse) write that user have to use Ctrl or Command button (don't rememeber which exactly) + mouse click to do this.

Thanks starway!

I have changed the system on my site anyway, now visitors submit their email and the file is sent to them.

What got me curious was that I posted this link a short while ago in the Java forum:

But seeminly it only works for me, no-one else was able to get it working!! :(
