How do I link .DAT files into a table? I am using Access 2003. There is no option to link this file type.

.DAT is usually a text file...

You need to update your registry settings. Look up this topic at Microsoft's Knowledge Base - there is an article on it.

You can rename it in Window's Explorer regardless of the size - just right-click on the filename. Don't try to open it to rename it.

Updating the registry allows you to treat any file extension as text without renaming. In your case where it sounds like it's a one-time process, just rename it.

I don't want to have to rename it. It's a .dat file in a cd and I would like to be able to link to it. I would like to automate this as much as possible. Why is it that I can bring it in Excel and not Access?
