Linking Access to SQL server

Does anyone know how to link tables in Access to SQL server without having ODBC setup in the Control Panel. Does Access have these built in and if so how would I use them?

Access 2000?
Don't you only need ODBC for DSN connections?
Pretty sure Access 2000 (.adp) just connects straight to SQL Server with no dramas. Ben
