Linking Access 02 to dbase IV memo error

I try linking Access 02 to dbase IV file. When I go to open the linking dbase it gives me a memo error. I research all the possible fixs on the internet about the memo field, but yet to find one I can get to work. I know I have to pick a index file but I don't get that choice when linking the database tables. Help.
