I have two tables that I would like to link by using a formula rather than the smart linking which only lets me link where one column is equal to another column.

Is ist possible to link through a formula? Steven Robillard

Not directly.

You could use a linked subreport, which can be very slow since each subreport is a separate query to the database.

Is this SQL based data?
Can you make part of the link?

Describe in more detail and there may be a workaround.

This is an SQL query.

I am not quite sure what you mean about making part of the link.

The database is very large and involves the natural_gas industry.

I am actaly trying to link a view with the other tables. I want a column of the view to use a string function, (RIGHT ( , ))to compare the views column with a database column.

If I link the view with the Database as it stands now it does not return all the records I want because the database's data has some extra left zeros on some on it's data.

I may have to use the subreport idea or perhaps I can link the view

Steven,
Why not just create a stored procedure that handles all your joining of tables and views? It will be faster and more flexible, and you can return to the report just the info you need.

Yes, I have done that very thing on another query and will do that again. I guess I just wanted to confirm that the wall I was banging my head against was real.

Thank you again. Steven Robillard
