Hi all. Does anyone know if there is any way to programmatically modify both the structure and the data of a text file that is a linked table in Access?

I have a file of >900k records that is linked as a table in Access (version 2003 on Windows XP SP2) . The file is a structured CSV file with quotes as text qualifiers. I want to add two columns, an integer field so I can add a numeric index, and a 4-char text field which I want to populate with one of three different codes depending on conditions in the data.

Is this possible, or will I have to import the file into Access, make the modifications, and then re-export it?

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.
