Linked table not updating

Hi all,

I'm sure I've not dreamt this, but I thought that if you linked a table from MS Excel to MS Access and you opened the linked table in Access, providing you had exclusive use of the table you could amend and update it.

I've tried opening one of my linked tables and it won't let me change the values.

Have I made this up??!!

Linked tables are linked through an ODBC connection and as far as I know you can only retrieve data through that.

Anyway, changes will need to be made in the in source document.

Hi,

AFAIK, you cannot use ODBC to link a workbook.

However, you can right-click in the Tables Window and select...

Link Tables > Files of Type: Mocrosoft Excel...

Linked workbook tables can be updated directly in Open Table and thru modification queries.
