I am creating a database that needs to have a single table linked to a MRP application for a Part Master Data.

Here is my delema.

1) Need to keep the table read only so nobody can mess up the MRP data through the link.

2) Cannot lock the records in the table to protect the data as that will stall all the other users on the MRP system.

does anyone have a design scheme that could accomodate this flow.

thanks for your help

Regarding security - advanced topic...
You either have to implement security, or use data access pages.

Record locking - advanced topic
You can control this by the type of form you use, and byt the type of "cursor" used. You can also use data access pages.

It almost looks like DAP may be the way for you to go.

But this is not a database design issue. You still need to design your table schema to accmodate your data.

What are you going to use the data from the linked table for? Display on a Form or some other use?
