Linked Servers

I have two SQL 2000 servers on a WAN with IP conectivity but on different domains. I am trying to write a trigger on a table on one server that updates a table on the other server.

I am having problems setting up linked severs, I keep getting the following message when trying to select the Table icon on the linked server

'Error 6: Specified SQL server not found'

Can anyone help me or give some pointers
