linked servers and client network utility wackyness...

I have 2 instances of SQL on the same server.

SERVER\INSTANCE_A
SERVER\INSTANCE_B

I create a linked server connection 'LINKED_SERVER' on both instances (the linked server MUST have the same name on both instances...

Now, I want

LINKED_SERVER on SERVER\INSTANCE_A to point physically to SOME_SERVER_1

but

LINKED_SERVER on SERVER\INSTANCE_B to point physically to SOME_SERVER_2.


Both instances share the same client network utility.... So I'm lost. Help!!!

nevermind...

you can avoid this problem by using @datasrc parameter in sp_addlinkedserver procedure...

a little research does wonders ;0)
