Is it possible to create a linked server from sql 2000 to sql 2005. I've tried setting it up from the sql 2000 box and from the sql 2005 box but with no luck.

I get the following error message when trying to query from the sql 2000 server to the sql 2005 server using Query Analyzer.

Sql server does not exist or access is denied.

Thanks,
Mike

Yes you can do this. Start with this FAQ faq962-5481.

Going through the check list of FAQ962-5481: Troubleshooting Connections to SQL Server helped me to determine that the issue was a password policy enforcement: Must change password at next login. There was a few gotcha's with getting that fixed but once the password worked so did the linked server.

As always thanks for the help.
