Does anyone know why a form that displays a linked jpg picture
that has worked for years would stop working with with no change to the database. I think something has made a change to something in the registry? Any thoughts.

A few questions come to mind.

Is an error message being raised? Do you have any reasons to think there have been registry changes. How is the jpeg being displayed on the form (Kodak ActiveX control, Microsoft image control, something else)? Have you changed Windows or Access releases/versions? Is the link/path to the image file still valid? Can you open the image outside of Access?

Please give us a few more clues.

Cheers,
Bill

Bill - Thanks for the reply. There are no error messages.

This is one of the first databases I ever did (originally built with A97 - now 2000). I seem to remember that Micosoft Photo Editor and some graphics filter had to be installed for this to work, one or both of which was not a default of the Office 97 installition, but is in 2000.

The path to the image is valid. The images outside of access open with Photo Editor.

This is not something I use very often now, so I don't know exactly when it stopped working. Several months ago I bought an HP camera and installed the software that came with it, which is what I suspect made some registry change that is causing the problem. I uninstalled the HP software but that didn't fix the problem. Possibly a reinstall of Office would.

I am mostly curious as to the cause.

Thanks,

Willy,

It sounds as if your issue is with the graphics filter for jpeg's, not the image control (which has a limited range of formats: (bmp, ico, metafile and a couple others). Maybe the following extract from Access Help will add a clue.

"The separate graphics filters are not supplied with the stand-alone version of Microsoft Access. To use the filters, you need to install the Microsoft Office Professional Edition, Microsoft Office Premier Edition, or a stand-alone version of Microsoft Word along with your stand-alone version of Access.

If you are using A2K, then switching from the Microsoft Image Control to the Kodak ActiveX control might work for now. It will handle jpeg's, though you might have to do some tweaking to get your old sizing. Unfortunately, the use agreement for the control wasn't renewed and it isn't available/functional in later Access versions.

Cheers,
Bill
