We have files that contain a number of linked graphics, as well as text insets. When we opened one of the files today, we discovered that the graphics had disappeared. The frame for the graphics are still there, but the graphics themselves are missing.

:-I

In addition, when you look at the text inset, the graphics are missing as well. But if you double-click on the inset and load the inset file, the graphics are pressent.

Updating the source has no effect on the empty frames.

Any ideas?

By "linked" do you mean that they're imported By Reference rather than copied into the file?

Assuming that you *do* mean that the graphics are imported By Reference, my first guess would be that someone moved--or removed--the graphic from the location where it was when you imported it. It's also possible that the directory containing the graphic was renamed. When you import graphics by reference, FrameMaker needs to have the graphics remain in the same location, with the same name. If anything about the graphic name or location changes, you must reimport it.

Here's another quick thought: Try using Ctrl-l (that's a lowercase "ell") to redraw the page. It's also possible that the graphic is there but has gotten pushed almost out of the frame so that it's not visible. Try this: select the frame and then Select All (Ctrl-A). See if any little black "handles" show up inside the frame. If you see some handles way off at an edge, use Alt-Shift plus arrow keys to move the object into view.

Hope some of this helps.
