I am going to be working on two files (history) and they are very large (almost 1 gig). I am going to unload, recreate and load up the data to reduce the size. I need to do this because of existing applications that state corruption is most likely when these files get this large. My inquiry is that they are linked. Will this cause any problems while performing this task????

Thanks for any assistance.

What exactly do you mean by "linked"?

If you mean that one file is actually a link to the other (via the ln -s source_file target_file command), then there shouldn't be a problem.

What would the "unload, recreate and load up" process entail?

If you clear the file(s) by (for example) cat /dev/null > file, then you should be OK.

Give us more details & you'll no doubt get a better answer than mine!
