Linked files problems

Hi all.

I'm new to this forum but I'm pulling my hair out here!

I'm using a Mac G3 fully uprated to the maximum setting and I use it for illustration work.

I have Illustrator 8 and Photoshop 6 on the Mac and Illustrator 8 and Photoshop 7 on my PC.

The problem is that when I create a JPEG in Photoshop 7 on PC and export wizard it so that the background is transparent I first save it to a floppy then place it on my vector based page in Illustrator 8 on the Mac.

I resume my work on the Illustrator 8 page and later save it to the Mac HD.

I then remove the floppy from the Mac floppy drive and afterwards try to open the file and it brings up the error message
"could not find the linked file "Export Wizard-1 copy.psd". Replace it with another file?.

Now my PC NEVER had this problem but the Mac is always doing it. Thing is that It would be impractical to send to my 4-colour printer my full book pages drawn in Illustrator 8 and also two JPEG images to sit on his printers' HD just to print these two pages!!

Why can't the Mac save my Illustrator files with the JPEG added but my PC can??

Can anyone help??

First of all JPEGS dont contain transparency, so I'm not sure what you are talking about there, but thats a different story.

Why don't you just embed the JPEG instead of linking it? When you place the object there is a checkbox for linked, just uncheck that box.

If the object is already placed as a link then just select it and choose Embed Image from the drop down menu in the Links palette.
