I have an PowerPoint file that a user has created on a PC with linked files. These linked files are on her CD-ROM drive which is D:.
She is presenting the presentation on a PC which has the CD-ROM drive as E:. The file errors out and says the linked file cannot be found because it is looking in the D:\. On Microsoft's site it looks like you need to go to Edit then Links, but that option is grayed out for me.

Why? I just want a way to edit the location where it is looking for this file to E: drive.

Thanks for you help

Try right-click on the link, and look at Action Settings.

Within the window under Run Program may show the path where PowerPoint expects to find the link.

Hopefully there are not too many to edit !

Save the file under a new name that indicates the links point to E: drive.

If switching CD drives happens frequently, consider setting the links within the presentation to drive X: or Y:

You can use the SUBST command and point X: drive to the actual CD drive on that machine prior to the presentation.

(Of course you must set the subst drive before changing the file the first time.)

This is more "overhead", but if the presentation is quite large and complex, it may be a preferable solution.

That didn't work!
Maybe she added the links wrong. I tried adding another one too, and I think I did it the same way she did.
I went to insert, from file, picked the file and checked the box next to link. Is that how you are suppose to do it??
Then I moved the file that I had linked and when I click on the edit menu it is still greyed out and when I go action settings nothing is there either, both settings are set to none. I tried changing the run program but it was looking for .exe and the I changed to all files and put the graphic file in there, but it still did not show the file.
The presentation is huge so I have a lot of files to change.
It sounds like if I can get into that link menu under edit, I will be able to change it, but it is always greyed out.
If any one has any more ideas I would really appreciate it!!!
Thanks

When I wanted the presentation to branch out to another application, I used this Action Setting parameter in Run Program to bring up the linked file in Excel :

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\excel.exe" /e C:\COF\Components.xls

In the second case when I only wanted to use data from another application, I highlighted the data and copied and pasted it.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Thanks for you help!!!

The file that is actually linked is a graphic image, so I can't it to work how you tried to show me. It is a picture off of a Digital Camera. And instead of making the presentation huge, we copied all of the images on to a CD and then linked the files in the presentation.

How can I access the Edit, Links menu??? I think that is my real problem, becuase in there there is suppose to be a box that shows the source of the file and I should be able to change it!

Thanks
