I have an issue with a few of my users using a bunch of linked spreadsheets that are now showing some strange behaviour.

These are Windows 2000 OS(Sp4) users with Excel 2000 on all user machines that use the shared spreadsheets.

I have asked one of the users to put into his own words what is exactly happening and he forwarded me the text, which I have pasted below. He is mostly worried about the 3rd point , where worksheets are randomly deleted without any action on the users part.

We have a series of 6 excel workbooks, with numerous spreadsheets which are all linked in a hierarchy building group accounts. These workbooks are shared as 2-3 of us can work on them at any given time. We do not run any macros in the workbooks and there is a simple linking as they build to the main top level spreadsheet.

We have encountered a number of problems:

1. random formulae appear in the top workbook, refering to a void link
2. from time to time the print ranges are automatically changed in the individual spreadsheets
3. most SERIOUSLY, random sheets are 'deleted' from the workbook when it is opened.

I hope this helps.

Many thanks in advance

This sounds to me like human (or divine) intervention. More likely the first.

For you last problem, there is way to check. When a worksheet does disappear, with the workbook open, press ALT/F11 to start Visual Basic Editor. Press CTRL/R if you don't see the project explorer on the left.

The project should list every worksheet present in the worlbook. If the missing sheet is list, click on it and check the Visible property of the worksheet under the properties window below. Chances are it will say "0 - xlsheethidden" or "2-xlsheetveryhidden"? 1 is when it's visible.
