How can I link an MS Access database to an “XML Spreadsheet” which bears the excel icon and .xls file extension. Access links fine to “Microsoft Excel Workbook” but it won’t read files saved as “XML Spreadsheet” .xls?
How can I link to the data in Access?
Or does someone know the code I would use to create a simple bat file to copy the “XML Spreadsheet” to “Microsoft Excel Workbook” which I can link to?

I'm not an excel expert.
Having said that and looking at Excel 2003 Help, you can save a spreadsheet in XML or xls format.

I just created a small spreadsheet and saved it as
a) an xls,
b) an XML

I then tried to read each. Both were opened easily and looked exactly the same.

Did you try reading/opening the file with excel?

Thank you jedraw

The problem I have is when I take an Excel file whose data has been generated from Oracle and try to link it to an MS Access database.
The database will not let me create the link. A message is generated stating incompatibility as the reason.
It has something to do with the saved Excel file from Oracle being XML Spreadsheet instead of Microsoft Excel Workbook.
