I will be getting a new license with Micros Server. I am told that it is Version 5.7
I want to access the Menuitem definition table, the employee definition table and the daily sales tables. I am running current version of Access. Currently I download the CSV text files from my Old Micros system 2700. I then append these txt records into Access tables. I also create and upload to the Micros 2700 Menuitem definitions and employee definitions as needed throughout the month using a CSV text file which is created automatically in Access.
When I enter into the current century with my POS and my database back of the house, I would like to have direct access, or "live" access, to the POS tables. It would make download and upload failures minimized.
I understand that Sybase Central is installed in Micros software and apparently it will provide me with sql access to the tables.
My question: Will I be able to Link to the Micros tables so that I may use my Access for queries, forms, reports, macros, etc? I see that Access has wizards in the External Data dialog "New Source Data" which can be directed to other external sources such as "OBDC" and "SQL Server".
Will Micros server allow this link? Can it be this simple?
Please give me some heads up.
Micros Vendor has told me that they can take me only so far. There response to my inquiry is "Sybase central comes with RES 3700 and installs automatically as part of the installation process, our programmers can show you how to access Sybase central but that would be about the limitations of their knowledge in that area."
I have read some posts reqarding this situation and especially appreciate the no-nonsense comments from "pemegans".
Cheers. Gary
