Hi

I want to create a link on an intranet page to open my companies accounts software. I've got this to work fine ... up to a point.

I need to pass a switch to the application when it's launch and this is where the problems is.

e.g.
file://C:\Program Files\NCD Load Balancing\ConfLBMnPC.exe
Works fine.

file://C:\Program Files\NCD Load Balancing\ConfLBMnPC.exe /s Concept
Produces a Page can not be displayed erro

Can any one help?

nope i dont think that can be done, maybe u could create a text file in the local system that will tell the application the parameters...

Known is handfull, Unknown is worldfull

The other option would be to use one of these old, archaic scripts we DOS geeks like to call batch files ;o)

Create a batch file that calls your EXE file with all the relevant parameters, and then execute the batch file from IE instead of the EXE file.

For those who don't know (those born since the GUI became de facto ;o), a batch file is simply a text file with a ".bat" extension that can execute simple script commands from a DOS prompt.

Hope this helps,
Dan

I tried the bat file method .... I'm one of those DOS geeks who was brought up on DOS 3.3 ... those were the days .... but I digress.

The trouble with the batch file method is that IE then asks if you want to SAVE or OPEN the file when I click on the link.

As it's for an intranet, you might be able to get around this by modifying (or adding) a MIME type for the ".bat" extension. If you make it the same as for EXE files (for me, this is "application/octet-stream").

Hope this helps,
Dan
