hi,

we want to add a download section to our website for our clients. there are files to download (jpg and gif)- but they are very small in actual size (14x14 px) as well as file size (1k). it would be quite a joke to zip them (the zip header would be larger than the file ;) ) just to achieve a download dialog. on the other hand, to open a new window with the 14*14 px picture in it, so that the user can save it isn't really funny either.
as far as i know, there is no official html code that forces a download. is there a work-around (except zipping the files)?
tnx in advance

I have huge problems with this also. Now I use a perl script, the visitor fills in their email and the file is immediatly emailed to them. Fast and neat.

There is one called Automail Lite at:

The one I use is Attachit:

Just instruct the user to right-click on the image and select "Save Image As".

Ask your host about an FTP directory. By connecting via web based FTP it should cause the download to prompt. DeZiner

Good answer! I've seen a lot of questions about how to get browsers to download instead of display, but this is the first time I've seen the suggestion to use ftp instead of http. (It never occurred to me either [blush]). I'd try just changing the link to ftp:// instead of http:// and see what happens. (I'm a firm believer in the "empirical method": try it and see what happens.) Tracy Dryden
