Hi,

We are currently using Page Maker and one of the problems we have is that of the links between our pictures (from PainShop Pro 9) tables (designed in word!) and then text done in PM (loads of different stories to the book).

We have a great number of problems when we send information to translation or when we update a picture - find that we lose the links, and the same with tables.

We are about to move to InDesign CS (probably the new one) – It is to late to change our PM problems now, but do the same linking issues still exist in InDesign?

Ta very much,

Pagemaker should not have any linking problems unless you or your translators are moving/deleting your linked files. If you continue this practice with InDesign, then you will still have linking problems. InDesign does have better relinking features to speed reassociations.

One trick on ID is to keep the links window open. When you want to edit a linked item, you select Edit Original in the links window. That will open the linked item in its native app. Do the edits, save and UPDATE link in the links window. This prevents you from forgetting to relink something that's changed.

If you use a lot of images, I would STRONGLY suggest the new Creative Suite premium coming in May. one new feature is a suite wide Image browser so you can easily keep and find any image by actually seeing them in the file browser. Photoshop CS was the first of the Adobe apps with this fetaure and I've found it immensely useful.
