link options (restricted to one match)

Is it possible to create a link matching only the first record of the right table in a one to more relation

More in detail....
Linking the tables below I get 4 lines selecting "side A" but I only want to get one line showing the first persons name and location, not all !

Table 1
side A
side B
side C

Table 2
side A person 1
side A person 2
side A person 3
side A person 4

Table 3
person 1 name location
person 2 name location
person 3 name location
person 4 name location


Is this possible ?

You can do it by using Group Header to display data instead of details
Group data by Table1 field
Suppress detail and group footer
Sort data by Table 2 field ascending repet for table 3 filed 1
Place data you want to see in Group header.

This will show only first record in dataset

Hi Ian,

Thank you for your response.
This example is just a part of a complex report using several tables and links.
I'm using 3 groupings to combine some information but in my case I need the details to summarize some costs.
That is what causes the problem...
If I want to summarize some costs I get 4 detail rows instead of one because there is a link to the contact persons in table 3.
So for "side A" I get 4 detail rows instead of 1 and the sum of the costs in grouping-1 is 4 times the value it should be.

It's a little bit difficult to explain but I hope the problem is clear.

In that case use Running Total to perform your summaries.
Set evaluate to change of group

Thank you for your response.
I've created an overview I can work with, but I'm not completely satisfied.
When I have some free time I'll play with it to get it like the way I want ;-)
