Link ODBC table dialog missing

I want to link to a table in an ODBC database. I select tables, new, link table. In the Open dialog I select ODBC database. The Open dialog goes away as expected but the ODBC dialog doesn't then appear!

I can go to ODBC administration and all is working well but Access doesn't seem to be able to call the appropriate DLL.It worked yesterday, and I haven't done anything destructive in the meanwhile.

Has anyone any ideas? I can't reinstall Access until I get back home where my disks are.

I just encountered the same problem. The most recent change on the computer was intalling Norton Antivirus, but I believe I was still able to access the ODBC dialog once or twice after installing NAV.

By the way, uninstalling and reinstalling Access did not correct the problem: same issue persists.

For those wanting more information, this is how the problem is encountered:

1. Open an Access database
2. Click the File menu, and choose "Get External Data"
3. Click "Import"
4. The "Open" dialog appears. In the "File Type" box, change to "ODBC Databases".

In the past, the ODBC dialog appears. Now, nothing. The Open dialog disappears, and the user is returned to MS Access.

Anyone have any ideas?

Oops, should have closed this thread myself!

Yes, it is a NAV problem. Fix it by disabling the Office plug-in in NAV like this:

Open NAV, (not Protection Centre) select Options->Norton AntiVirus, select Miscellaneous on the left and uncheck the Office plug-in box.

Unfortunately I think that means NAV is no longer scanning Office files for viruses. You might like to ask Symantec for your money back.
