link formula across database

I am using CR XI
I have data in ORACLE db
in a field 12345678XX or 12345 XX . I also have data in an Access table 12345678 I want to link the 2. I have created a formula which extracts the first 8 charaters and this is fine but how do I link the results to the field in Access

Are you calling the access data in a subreport.

If yes just link from your formula in main report to relevant field in subreport on Access.


If you want Access data to be part of the main report and physically link the oracle and access data, you will need to create a view of your oracle data and replicate your formula as a field/column within your view. You should be able to join data together, provided both are same data type

Crystal will complain but you may be able to get away with it.

Alternatively within access create a link to oracle and import the data from the above oracle view into access and then make your join and report off your access database.
